He is soon contacted by former members of the yakuza who inform him that $10 billion has been stolen and Kiyru decides to investigate further. Nishiki has been given his own family to control and Kiyru has been informed that his friend has changed a great deal.
He learned while in prison that Yumi has disappeared and there still seems to be no one with any information on where she might be. Kiryu has been released from prison and returns to his familiar home of Kamurocho to find a great deal has changed. While some in law enforcement aren’t convinced that Kiryu is the murderer he continues to cover for Nishiki and spends a decade behind bars. He’s killed their boss and with sirens in the distance, Kiryu tells him to leave and take Yumi, instead taking the fall for the murder. Kiryu arrives to find his friend Akira Nishikiyama already there. Things seems to be looking bright for his future in the criminal underworld but when he receives word that his boss has taken his friend Yumi by force, he immediately leaves to try and stop whatever plans he may have for her. The story centers on Kazuma Kiryu and initially begins in 1995 where he is on the verge of becoming the head of his own family. Yakuza Kiwami is in fact a remake of the original game.

To date there have been seven different games in the series although some have been spinoff titles, and even as I’m writing this review the latest game in the series has been given a release date of next year. In 2005 SEGA released the first game on the PlayStation 2 which ended up becoming a franchise. However it doesn’t necessarily have to be a game which is decades old that is given a facelift. DuckTales and SEGA’s own Castle of Illusion are two examples of classic games which have been given dramatic makeovers much to the delight of gamers. There have been a number of remakes in recent years, often instead referred to as being remastered versions, which have been spectacular. Video games however seem to be a very different thing.
